Red Diamonds

Red Diamonds

Pure red diamonds are known to be the rarest of all fancy colored diamonds

Where does the color Red come from

Similar to pink and brown diamonds, color in red diamonds is generally considered to be caused by colored graining, which results from structural irregularities in combination with an impurity.

Mining

Australia’s Argyle Diamond Mine produces most of the world’s red diamonds, but red diamonds have also been found in Brazil.

Most famous. Period.

The Brazilian red diamond is a 0.95-carat round brilliant known as the Hancock Red, named after Mr. Warren Hancock, a notable colored diamond connoisseur, who began collecting these rarities in the early 1950s until his death in 1981 at the age of 65. While he also owned sev- eral other notable colored diamonds it was his 0.95-carat red stone that made news when it was sold at Christie’s in 1987 for $880,000.
